With short murder mysteries (our pal Sherlock comes to mind) there's a certain balance that is achieved with information revealed to the reader and the details noticed by the trained detective. I found this story to be lacking that sort of elegance (for want of a better word). It was as if the "rules" of the world were somehow unclear...
